Yesterday’s prompt for the Soulful Faces challenge was “Repurposed”, to interpret any way we like. I scratched my head for a while on that one.
I decided to go for an experimental direction and – don’t ask me why, I have NO idea! – grabbed my nail varnish bottles!!!
I love the Rimmel 60 Seconds range as it literally dries in 60 seconds, very good for an impatient girl like me. I have quite a few colours, even though I rarely wear nail varnish. they’re just pretty bottles of colour.
As I was painting with these, I realised that there was no room for blending since the varnish dries so rapidly, so that was a quick and easy one. I really love how the brushstrokes show and the slight shine of the varnish make the painting look very unique but simple. A mixture of grunginess and softness.
I decided against painting a background as I felt the girl would not stand out so much in her simplicity. I wanted the focus on her, without any distractions.
Here is the finished result:
This is most definitely a technique I will use again…
That’s what experimenting with unusual tools and media is all about.
