In this last chapter of the Season of Seasons series, I am creating a double page spread, totally mixed media, combining paints, fabric and embroidery.
- altered book
- black gesso
- silicon wedge
- Dina Wakley brush
- Galeria acrylic paints in Titanium White, Green Gold, Pale Olive, Opera Rose, Pale Violet, Cerulean Blue Hue, Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue
- a piece of fabric on which I previously embroidered my bird
- Posca paint pens in Gold, Silver, White
- Aleene’s Tacky Glue
I started the project with the only idea of using my fabric piece of embroidery.
Starting with black gesso, I wanted my embroidery piece to pop.
As I chose Spring as the season for my art, I intuitively created floral and leaves designs, which is a recurrent theme and imagery in my creative process.
I added my colours very intuitively. For instance, I was not going to use any blue, but bringing my embroidery piece, where blue is quite prominent, I decided that the Cerulean Blue had to have a place on the spread. This turned into the main title as well as random marks across my page, in order to balance the colour.
To adhere my piece of embroidery, I chose to use Aleene’s Tacky Glue as it adheres quite securely. To secure my piece, I also used my wedge to apply pressure to ensure that the adherence was even around my pocket.
